STAIN GROUP TOOL
The Stain Group Tool provides additional control and information for managing stain groups.
When a stain group is selected, the Stain Group Tool becomes active and displays:
- The name of the stain group (editable)
- The color assigned to the group (editable)
- The number of stains in the group (read-only)
The selected stain group remains active within the Stain Group Tool until another stain group is selected.
Stain List
The Stain Group Tool shows a list of all stains contained in the selected stain group. This makes it easy to quickly cycle through all stains within the group.
Clicking a stain in the list will:
- Select the stain
- Highlight the stain in the 3D view
- Display the stain it its parent image in the 2D view
Actions

Moving Stains
Multiple stains can be moved to a different stain group all at once.
To move stains:
- Select the stains using the checkboxes.
- Click the Move button.
- Choose the destination group.
This is useful when you identify stains that belong to a different pattern.
Renaming Stains
Stains are automatically named when created, but these names may not always be meaningful.
The Stain Group Tool allows you to rename multiple stains at once using a base name and (alpha)numeric increment.
For example: A1, A2, A3, ...
To rename stains:
- Select the stains in the list.
- Click Rename.
- Enter a base name and increment type.
Deleting Stains
Multiple stains can be deleted simultaneously.
To delete stains:
- Select the stains.
- Click the Trash icon.
Docking Behavior
The Stain Group Tool:
- Can be docked on the left or right side
- Can be closed
- Can be reopened from: Tools > Stain Group Editor
- Can be undocked and used as a floating window.
