Peer-reviewed validation lies at the basis of our methods. Internal and independent validation studies ensure that you can trust your results!

CALCULATION OF BLOODSTAIN IMPACT ANGLES USING AN ACTIVE BLOODSTAIN SHAPE MODEL (2014)

Impact angles are traditionally estimated by taking the inverse sine of a stain's width-to-length ratio. HemoVision replaces this manual method with an automated statistical shape model trained on hundreds of example stains, improving objectivity and accuracy. This publications dives into the details of this model and its validation.

HEMOVISION: AN AUTOMATED AND VIRTUAL APPROACH TO BLOODSTAIN PATTERN ANALYSIS (2015)

HemoVision uses a marker-based system to automate the analysis of projected bloodstain patterns. Instead of manually measuring stain coordinates, HemoVision calculates them automatically. Read more about HemoVision's marker system in this publication.

BLOODSTAIN IMPACT PATTERN AREA OF ORIGIN ESTIMATION USING LEAST-SQUARES ANGLES: A HEMOVISION VALIDATION STUDY (2022)

This study presents HemoVision's novel approach to area of origin estimation that works directly in three dimensions. At the same time, validation results are presented, assessing HemoVision's accuracy on 10 impact patterns and comparing the results to other methods.

AREA OF ORIGIN ESTIMATION FROM MULTIPLE ARBITARILY ORIENTED SURFACES USING MARKER-GUIDED STRUCTURE FROM MOTION (2024)

HemoVision enables forensic investigators to analyze even the most complex impact patterns using just 2D photographs. This study presents HemoVision's 3D reconstruction method, and validates its accuracy on a dataset of 5 complex impact patterns.

Why use Hemovision?
  • HemoVision markers are placed on all surfaces that contain interesting bloodstains.
  • A single measurement is made is to position the pattern in 3D space. No other measurements are required.
  • Photographing the patterns can be done freehand. Any perspective distortions are corrected automatically.

Optimize your workflow.

HemoVision revolutionizes the forensic workflow by significantly reducing the time required for both on-scene documentation and subsequent analysis. Traditionally, documenting a crime scene and manually analyzing bloodstain patterns is a tedious process, prone to human error. HemoVision automates this procedure, removing the need for manual measurements and complex calculations. This optimization not only saves valuable time but also minimizes the duration forensic experts spend at potentially hazardous crime scenes, thereby reducing the risk of biohazard exposure and contamination. By automating these tasks, HemoVision allows investigators to obtain critical results in the early stages of an investigation, leading to quicker decision-making and resource allocation, ultimately saving both time and money.

Create compelling reports.

One of HemoVision's standout features is its comprehensive suite of visualization tools, including 2D and 3D views, augmented reality overlays, and point cloud and 3D model support. These tools empower forensic experts to create detailed and compelling visual representations of bloodstain patterns, making it easier to communicate findings to colleagues, legal teams, and juries. The ability to quickly generate and test various hypotheses using strong visualization features accelerates the investigative process, providing clearer insights into the events at the crime scene. Additionally, automatic PDF reporting streamlines the documentation process, ensuring that all visual data is neatly compiled and easily accessible for further analysis and presentation.
